The quote reads, "When all the villains are gone, whence come heroes?" It's the motto of yet another story I'm in the middle of writing, although it doesn't involve this exact character. I worked on this pic quite a bit, it's sort of a breakthrough drawing for me, since I reworked the drawing digitally after its inital pencil/paper birth. I suppose it's inspired by the Final Fantasy-style summons/aeons/espers, etc, where the monsters have lots of nifty apparati and original anatomy.

And as far as critique goes, your composition is unsatisfying in that it's falling off the picture plane. It's very heavily weighted toward the left, and makes everything look uncomfortable and not put together well. I'd suggest adding something to the lower right that equaled out the space.
Also, it looks like you've got some really kickass anatomy going on here, with the translucent rib cage? Maybe push those values a little harder so it's easy to see, if that's what you're going for. Everything in this picture is so special and otherworldly, its kinda hard to understand what's going on. Maybe build your darks and highlights a little further, to give everything more definition.

But other than that, fantastic drawing. Very epic and creative.

Ahhhhman. It's refreshing to see your work again! Especially in color! I love the camera blur of the tentacle in the foreground. Gives that extra zing to the whole picture, I think.
