Metroid Snowglobe by fallout161 Metroid Snowglobe by fallout161
"You've been a part of me for so long, I can't remember anything else." -Ripley, Alien 3

I see a lot of similarities between Alien series and Metroid series. Strong female lead, fearsome, speechless alien menace. Sparse dialoague. Quality sci-fi. Well, sometimes.

Pencil sketch and ~20 to 30 hrs in photoshop CS5. I could spend even more time on it, but it would be polishing a turd at this point.

I wanted to upload something I was actually satisfied with. Still not quite sure I succeeded.

This is sweet. I wish I could have a real one of these. Metroid was inspired by the Alien series. Ridley's name is even a reference to Ripley.

This is a brilliant concept.  I'm not even a fan of the zero suit but the contrast is so perfect here.  I really hope you are proud of this because you should be.

I have to say, even if you (the artist) don't like the execution, that the concept is almost 100% objectively very interesting. Turning a metroid into a snow globe with Samus inside. I really like it.

That is absolutely beautiful. If you actually feel like polishing it up, that would be incredible.
I really love this picture. It's just a shame that I haven't seen it until now.

That is something I've never seen done with any other fan art. It's beautiful and horrifying at the same time, just like the Metroid series with its various levels and monsters. Amazing job!

Fitting, since Metroid was at least somewhat inspired by the first Alien movie (to the point that one of the game's villains is named after the movie's director, Ridley Scott, and in its first incarnation somewhat resembled the distinctive long-headed xenomorph of the film).

I really like the visual you've created here, and the way it's sometimes hard to tell where one of them ends and the other begins. It speaks volumes of the metaphors of their relationship to one another.

There's nothing to criticize. It's so bizarre. The 20+ hours of work you put into it really shows, man. You've done the Metroid series proud. This painting has been approved from a Metroid fan, himself.

But seriously, this is beautiful. If you just show your drawings to the right places, your pieces would be bought up. You have talent and great ideas and we need more artists like you who can offer nice work that is print worthy. My Ukiyo-e Nintendo piece got pretty popular when I uploaded it to Tumblr, I got requests for prints for it. And it was originally just a tattoo design for a friend. I think because our artwork is not "official", it's "okay" as long as no one makes a fuss. It's free advertising for Nintendo.

What's your tumblr? I'll add you to my watch and reblog your posts to my followers. It's basically, adding (following) blogs to your watch, and just scrolling on that dashboard, putting hearts on what you like and reblogging and people can ask you questions and the answers will show up in your follower's dash. A bloggable DA without the fail. You'd be amazed how much stuff gets passed around. Warning though, tumblr can get pretty addicting if you follow popular artist, funny and fan material related blogs. You dash will have something new in it several times a day. There's a blog for probably every interest out there, cooking, your mom, anime, gifs (and oh delicious gifs), disney face swap, etc. My Tumblr is my morning and evening paper. LOL [link]

I'd like to oppose the thought that some pieces of it look unfinished, I think it adds to the piece in the sense that, most of the elements within the Metroid look polished, the remaining does not, yet it does so in a framing way.
Perhaps it should not look "well defined", but further abstract, but some of it could go in an opposite direction instead of that of well defined character rendition.

Okay here's a critique from me, on me.

Finishing touches look rushed. (I got impatient, like usual... BUT I still had a lot more patience than most times I make art.)

-As others said, the green outline could use some work.
-The pose looks stiff, and the legs, although there in the original sketch, have since disappeared under a bunch of that red muck. They weren't spectacularly drawn to begin with, though.
-Suit is accurate, but probably missing some details. I detest doing difficult drawing work during the CG process, and avoid it at all costs.
-Ponytail hair could have used more cleanup, and definitely better outline.
-Hair is not the same colors throughout. Particularly noticeable on the head.
-background is boring/nonexistant. Did not experiment at this stage, only rushed to completion. Darker color probably would have worked better.
-Face is from the side. Easy, cop out, and not very exciting.
-Head looks flat.
-Ponytail never goes behind the meatballs.
-Claws at the bottom could have used more shading. Another level of brightness and some secondary lightsource, particularly.
-Some of the shading, particularly in some meatball areas, is rushed/lazy.

Dude, this is one of the most extraordinary works I've ever seen ... The idea of Samus, Metroid inside, her position, and the expression on his face built this masterpiece. Not to mention things like the colors, very beautiful and well dosed and stroke, striking and stylish. I really enjoyed Samus's hair spread across the landscape. I love Metroid, and see such an art about my favorite game makes me very happy. Congratulations, you're very talented!
